Pump Materials for Corrosive Chemicals

A practical material-selection workflow based on the exact chemical, concentration and temperature.

Material names alone do not prove compatibility. Start with the exact chemical composition, concentration range, operating and cleaning temperatures, contaminants, solids and oxygen content. Corrosion can change sharply with concentration or temperature. Review every wetted component: casing, impeller or diaphragm, shaft, valve balls and seats, gaskets, O-rings and mechanical-seal faces. Also consider erosion, galvanic pairs, permeation, swelling and brittle behaviour. Use current compatibility data from the material and chemical suppliers, then confirm uncertain or critical services with corrosion testing. Do not generalise from plain water or a more dilute solution.
