1. Define the dosing range
State the normal, minimum and maximum injection rate. Confirm whether the value is neat chemical or prepared solution.
2. Confirm real pressure
Include process pressure, injection-point elevation and line losses. Size the pump at the maximum credible discharge pressure.
3. Describe the chemical
Provide chemical name, concentration, temperature, density, viscosity, vapour tendency and safety classification. Use compatibility data to select the liquid end, diaphragm, valves and seals.
4. Check accuracy and control
State the required repeatability and turndown, manual or remote adjustment, pulse or analogue input, and whether flow verification is needed.
5. Review accessories
A complete dosing line may require a calibration column, strainer, relief valve, back-pressure valve, pulsation dampener and injection valve. Their need depends on the installation.
Final selection should be checked against the chemical safety data sheet and the actual piping arrangement.
